Amalgamated Wireless Australasia Limited (A.W.A.)

A.W.A. is one of the great companies in Australia's history. It is far from the biggest or the most profitable. Its contributions permeated Australian society in the post-World War 1 era in terms of communication, manufacturing and even sales. Its legacy is still being felt in Australia through the the wireless and television company known as the Australian Broadcasting Commission - commonly referred to as the ABC (and by many as Aunty).

The main aspects of AWA included in this website are:

  1. Comments on the history of AWA.
  2. Statements on AWA and its takeover of Telefunken.
  3. Its development of the technical aspects and later world-leading operation of the Beam Wireless network.
  4. The development and operation of the Coastal Radio network of stations.
  5. Australia's inland radio network.
  6. The telegraph transmission and delivery forms issued by AWA for all its services.
  7. The formation of the Overseas Telecommunications Commission (OTC) to replace AWA.
